What is a MIDI eBook ?
Essentially a MIDI eBook is an eBook enhanced by the use of MIDI music
files.
The music in your MIDI eBook can be presented in a variety of ways.
Embedded Music:
The MIDI music files are embedded in the HTML code of the page and
begin to play as soon as the page is loaded or displayed.
Music on demand:
The MIDI music files are linked to "play" buttons that allow the reader
to play the music when they are ready and while that page is being viewed.
Cursor dependent Music:
The MIDI music will begin to play when the reader's cursor reaches
a predetermined
line of text as they scroll down the page.
This type of eBook reader will be available soon but is still in development.
Any or all of these methods can be employed together.
It can be a matter of personal taste but it may be more dependent on
the type of story or information that is the subject of the eBook.
Less is More:
In my experience, the less "buttons" and other distractions that a
reader has the better.
You want your readers to focus on the story, not having to worry about
clicking on buttons etc. Although this will suit long pages dealing with
multiple themes.
That is why I favour the embedded music.
It starts automatically as the page is opened.
The main disadvantage of this method is that the particular page can
not or should not try to deal with more than one theme or idea at
a time. This will mean limiting your text to that which matches the theme
tune being played.
Variations and Copyright:
I have chosen MIDI music as the best music format to work with because
its use is generally unrestricted by copyright laws that govern most MP3
or WAV recordings.
Editor's note:
recent reports indicate that I was in error and any reproduction of music
will infringe on
copyright.
Only personal use
will ensure safety from litigation. For more info Click

However some MIDI files have been sequenced by professional musicians
who may still demand royalties if their compositions are used in commercial
publications.
So you will need to check this before using any MIDI file in your eBook.
