The Steps to Creating MIDI eBooks
- Part IV
Choose a Title
You may have thought of a title for your MIDI-eBook long before your
wrote the story, however this may also occur to you while you are writing
the book.
Try to choose a title that will grab the attention of a potential reader.
You may even like to use a "tag line" which explains in a few words
what the book is about and is added under the title, when the title is
not self explanatory.
e.g. Mr Gates - the life and times of an entrepreneur.
Author Name
Decide if you will use your real name or an assumed named.
Depending on the content of your eBook, it may be wise to hide you
real name!
Opening Page
This will be like the cover of a real book. It should show the title
in bold type face and the name of the author as well as the tag line. It's
a logical place for a graphic that illustrates your "virtual book" Of course
you will need a dramatic piece of music or sound effects on this page.
The Virtual Book
There are many good graphics programs that can be used to create a
realistic looking virtual book. We at Xerostar Holdings have just
released our new program called
"The eBook 3D Wizard"
You can download this program from http://www.ebook3dwizard.com
This program will produce stunning pictures of your virtual book with
only a few simple steps. There's no need to buy an expensive graphics
program and then spend weeks learning how to use it, just to make a picture
of your eBook.
You can also use these pictures to advertise your eBook on webpages.
The Introduction
Always have an introduction to explain a few aspects of MIDI-eBooks.
Keep in mind that the viewer may have never seen an eBook before. You will
need to explain how to navigate their way around the book. I think it's
very important to stress the need for a good sound system.
Many computer users assume they have a good sound system if they can
hear the Windows startup sound! The intro is also a good place to put a
few subtle advertisements as well as any links to important related websites.
The Index
No book is complete without a well designed index. It should show each
chapter
and the page number. Each chapter is linked to the page so the viewer
can go directly to the chapter, without having to scroll through a large
number of pages.
An index link as seen below can be put on every page to allow the reader
to return to the index at any time. This makes it very easy to navigate
the eBook.
The Credits Page
Always create a credits page. This should be done first out of courtesy
to the songwriters, musicians and original peformers as well as acknowledging
the person who did the MIDI sequencing. The other reason is that many viewers
will be curious about the origins of the music they are hearing. As an
adjunct you can also include links to pages with original lyrics to the
tunes. This can be included as one of the pages
in your eBook, or it can be placed on a website with a link from your
eBook.
Music scores are true copyright material and should not be copied or
displayed unless you have written permission to do so.
Page Links
The compiler will provide forward and back buttons for the viewer to
navigate the eBook, however it can be very convenient to have forward and
back buttons at the foot of each page.
These can be simple text links or you can use small graphic buttons
as we have done here. You can find plenty of buttons on the Web or you
can create your own.
It's very important to check that all the links work correctly. Keep
a list of all the HTML pages in their correct sequence so you can check
them one by one. Otherwise you can easily get one or more pages out
of the correct sequence.
Your Conclusion
Here you can place your contact email addresses so your audience can
send feedback etc. You may also include some interesting background
regarding the story and invite readers to contribute in some way. You can
also place a copyright notice here although some authors do this on every
page in fine print. A link to your Credits page can also be placed here.
